History
Southwood Psychiatric Hospital was built and founded in 1984. Traditional acute inpatient services for children and adolescents grew to include a variety of hospital- and community- based programs. These expansions included the opening of several Long Term Residential Treatment Programs, as well as a variety of community- based services, including EPSDT (Early Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment) and Family Based Services which are both in home programs. A private academic school license was added in 1995 to enhance treatment services. The school currently serves both students in residence at Southwood, as well as commuter students that are approved for specialized education services.
Southwood currently has a twenty one bed acute inpatient service utilized for crisis stabilization for children and adolescents. The program primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a strong focus on family involvement.
Southwoods residential treatment program currently consists of four programs, consisting of 63 beds for boys. Again, the residential program utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Our programs encourage family involvement and integration into the community and offer a wide range of therapeutic services to address long term placement needs. Two of our residential programs are located at the main campus in Upper St. Clair Township (Pittsburgh) and our two off site locations are located in Washington County.
Southwood Hospital is a wholly owned subsidiary of Youth and Family Centered Services, Inc.
